Challenge
The Ministry for the Development of the Digital Economy and Posts (MDENP) of Burkina Faso has entrusted Sofrecom with the task of supervising and controlling the deployment of the Ouaga-Pô fibre optic backbone network (FOOP) as part of the Regional Communication Infrastructure Project for West Africa (PRICAO).
This network is made up of several sections, totalling 307 km of optical fibre. It provides an international interconnection with Ghana and will serve the Bagré development hub.
Methodology
The scope of the project deployed by Huwaei included civil engineering works, the laying of fibre-optic cables and the installation of associated transmission equipment. Around 2,600 people from the towns and cities involved took part in the roll-out, including 800 women, for a total of 39,000 working days.
This very high-speed fibre-optic network was specified and designed by Sofrecom's experts and project managers, in compliance with the best international standards. Then, for almost a year, our consultants took on the role of ‘monitoring and control office’. They supervised the civil engineering works, the laying of the fibre-optic cables and the installation of the associated transmission equipment. Our consultants also trained the Ministry's staff in monitoring and control and ensured a transfer of skills to the local teams.
Results
Burkina Faso now has a very high quality broadband network, making it possible to offer Internet connectivity at a more affordable price to Burkinabé citizens and businesses.
